Palm Desert Area Information
Palm Desert is located in Riverside County, California. It is a large city situated in the Coachella Valley. The city’s current population is 48,445. However, the population temporarily rises in the winter months as Palm Desert is a popular destination for “snowbirds” from the Northern and Eastern parts of the United States. Recently, many people from California’s coastal regions and larger cities have flocked to Palm Desert due to the affordability and high value of residential homes in the area.
Due to its fast growth throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Palm Desert has developed a reputation of being a very popular shopping destination and a main business hub for the Coachella Valley area. One of the major shopping centers is the Westfield Palm Desert, which opened in 1983. Other shopping centers include One Eleven Town Center, Town Center Plaza, and Desert Crossing. Desert Crossing houses several national brand name stores. Another popular shopping district is the El Paseo. This shopping district consists of high-end shopping outlets, rivaling it with Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive.
A popular destination for residents and visitors is the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. This houses a zoo and a botanical garden that is filled with a luscious display of desert plants and animals.
Palm Desert has also served as a home base for some of the world’s recognizable people. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, is one of many notable people who maintains a home in Palm Desert.
